Inside

I'm missing my sister, which is a first. I never miss her. Never. It might sound weird but I could not recall any time in my life where I truly missed hanging out with her. Not when we were kids, not when we went to different schools in high school,  not when I was gone to the city after college and she stayed behind with my parent for two years. Nuthin'. Till now, of course. I just don't geddit. Suddenly I miss our weekly strolls at Mega, eating stuff and window shopping till the afternoon fades away. So weird.

The same goes for my old life. I wanna go back na, waaaah! But I can't, I totally blew my savings away because of my last purchase! I've been toying with the idea of coming back more and more especially since my boss has been showing signs of being weird lately. I don't know why but suddenly, things are odd.

Like last week, I totally had nothing to do which was another first. Then he gave me a new assignment and he hasn't even checked up on me which is yes, another first (it's a new assignment, normally bosses are bound to be nosing around). Then I checked out his email (don't worry, I'm allowed to) because I was worried whether or not he got my reports and guess what... he hasn't even opened any of my reports. Oh, the horror!

Am I being fired or something? Cuz I have this feeling that he will fire me.

Well, I'm thinking that maybe he's just insanely busy. I heard from the grapevine that he may have lost his mini-website developer. He didn't really show it but I can feel my boss getting testy during our conversation. Don't get me wrong, there were no snarky remarks or whatever, in fact, he was cordial as always, but something was up.

So far I've been working all day and night because of the new assignment, which by the way, is both tedious and dull (because I'm duplicating my own write-ups... ZING). I feel like I'll lose my mind because I've been re-wording all the articles I did to make even more content for him and it's no picnic. If anything, reading each articles convinced me that I suck at what I do. I think it's safe to say I won't win any literature awards anytime soon.

In-Debt

IMG000010

Been waiting for this thing for months! I got my first credit card, yay. My sister made me get one because she's thinking of either buying a new laptop or enrolling for a gym membership but whatever. God, this would have been awesome had I used it to purchase this instead of ponying in the cash in one go, haay.

Shotgun

My cousin, who is is eons younger than me, is getting married today. At first, me and my sister were deliberating on the cause of her speedy wedding. Our first theory was, of course, she's pregnant. You see, my dear little cousin has a strict and overbearing father and we thought that her new-found liberty (she just got her first job on a faraway place) got her knocked-up. We visited the bride-to-be yesterday and we got stunned by what we discovered. She was not pregnant (oh, the horror!) The story got sadder from there.

It turns out that a couple of months ago, her dad found a bus ticket that goes all the way to Zambales when in fact, she works in Olongapo. After much interrogation, my cousin admitted that she went to visit her boyf and even went as far as admit that she is sleeping with him.

shotgunwedding

Boom, she got hitched.

How fucking retarded is that?!

Never mind that her dad is ridiculously overbearing and stubborn as a bull. I find the whole thing absolutely ludicrous. Where's the romance in this wedding? NONE. Whatever happened to making your own decision as an adult? NONE. Why do old school things like this even happen in this day and age, I absolutely have no clue.

Of course, my mouth ran away with my imagination as soon as we were alone. I told her that it's nice that she lets her parents have their say on certain things in her life but they should always leave the decision making to her. Especially life-long decisions such as this one. I know I was treading over dangerous waters by spouting shit a day before the big day but I just can't wrap my head around the idea that she let her dad marry someone over something as stupid as a bus ticket.

It's the ultimate case of parents running the lives of their children way beyond puberty. Though I'm surprised that the it was her dad's decision to get her hitched, I'm even more stunned that she went ahead with his idea. Seriously, I don't get why she even went along with the bullshit. Sure, she might've wanted to get married but she gave me a feeling that she too, is a bit overwhelmed with the whole shebang but she just don't want to show it. I feel sad for the couple because it's obvious that they never saw this thing coming.

Let's hope against hope that things will work out for these kids.

7-Pattied Windows 7 Whopper

In line with the worldwide launch of Microsoft's Windows 7 comes this monstrous Whopper piled with, you got it, 7 beef patties. Only in Japan, folks.

Here's an interesting video of a couple of guys attempting to down the 7-pattied Whopper.

Ack!

The left side of my upper back is excruciatingly painful. So much so that I had to fix the entire orientation of my workplace to make it more uh... backside-friendly. Now the problem is that the newly-revamped workplace managed to make things worse. So now I'm thinking that maybe I have one of those chronic back ailment that only comes when you've grown insanely old.

Amnesia

I wonder why my left shoulder kept cramping up. It's been almost a week and still it hurts so bad that I had to take frequent breaks from writing just so I won't strain it.The pain is a cross between stiff neck and sore muscles, if there's any difference at all.

Anyway, I discovered, or re-discovered something mind-bending and to that, I give full credit to Rhae because she reminded me of it. Turns out that the Hindi guy, who back in my early Iweb days gave us two tickets to a horror flick which we never got to see, was none other than Eat Bulaga's Shivaker.

shivaker

He was the owner of a Indian resto/bar called Guru's kitchen (the food was fantastic) that we used to frequent and we chatted a couple of times and somehow we ended up getting premier tickets. I do remember him mentioning that he is a DJ back then but I didn't believe him because he was so comical or something. The point of this is that I have met Shivaker in person and I can't even remember it. Fucken memory gap, it's like I have amnesia or something.

I do remember him being hot though. So um... there.

Siiiiick

I had such an uncomfortable night's sleep due to gastritis. God, I hate it. The thing was, it went on until this morning, it was hell. I had to force myself to drink milk rather than coffee. Stupid gastritis.

Anyway, I've now began using my new lappy and turned my other old/new lappy into my main machine. So far, I was able to work away even if I'm out and about all over town. I'm quite impressed with its power considering that it is an Atom-based machine. I've yet to notice any difference between working on the netbook and a notebook... except for the screen size, of course.

The only glaring nega I can point out is the damn battery which loses its juice in just two hours. So if I bring it somewhere, I should also bring with me the cables which sucked because it totally defeats its portability feature.

I have installed cracked versions of Microsoft Office and AVG Pro on it... all by myself. It might not sound like a great achievement to most people but the last time I had something similar installed on a laptop, I had to shell out 300 bucks for it. Because I'm a noob. God, I can't believe those guys. I think they ripped me off considering I came with my own programs. That's so sad, I'll never come back to that place again.

Overall, I'm extremely satisfied with this netbook. At Php 26, 990, I think it is worth every cent. I recommend it to people who are looking for a handsome yet cheap-oh lappy that will be used solely for writing stuff, surfing stuff and sending stuff on email and do not plan on using hardcore programs used for video editing or graphic designing.

Bow.

"It's all about momentum and commitment"

- Anthony Bourdain, on crossing the busy streets of Manila

At Last!

It wasn't planned. I was supposed to go back to the city to visit my sister, buy my mom a birthday gift and meet up with old friends (which I failed to go to). I told myself I won't buy it until December. However, when I got there, there's a three-day sale on Mega and guess what! He was on sale!!!

Of course, I fought the compulsion to buy  it and instead focused my energies on collecting various leaflets and catalogs from competing gadget retailers (some sort of reading materials, I guess). The next day, I made plans to meet up my sister on Mega and braved the mall-wide sale. I showed her the netbook of my dreams. The unthinkable happened... she egged me on to buy it. I told her I was going to wait it out until December but she said there's no point in waiting especially since it's on sale now. Well that, and it costs only a little over my current mobile phone.

I blacked out and next thing I knew, I was withdrawing money. I, quite literally, emptied the ATM machine to the chagrin of the girl behind me. I made a beeline to the Toshiba center, made eye-contact to the salesman, which incidentally happens to be the same guy who coaxed me to buy the same unit a day before but my will power was well... powerful then, and he asked, without batting an eyelash, "What color?"

I breathlessly replied "Sable brown, please".

Me and Tosh

Cue in the music:

So there. I've road-tested the little bugger yesterday and so far, things are looking extremely excellent. I'm not too crazy about the minuscule tab button, the puny 3-cell battery (which I will replace with a 6-cell batt early next year when it will be available) and the touch pad which lags off every now and then (I'm actually pretty aware of this problem way before cuz a lot of owners are complaining about it but I ignored that little glitch because I don't use touch pads anyways). But overall, it's awesome.

Hey, nobody's perfect after all :D

Just... ranting

To buy or not to buy, that is the question. The truth is that as stoked as I am about the prospect of owning yet another laptop, I can't help but feel that maybe I'm jumping the gun on this one. I mean, sure I have a job right now but what's stopping my boss from laying off my ass in maybe a month or two? Then what?

Gasp! That would be insane!

But you know, that's the problem with home-based work, one day you harvesting your crops on Farmville while writing a gut-wrenching article about the benefits of Pay-Per-Click campaigns (bzooorrcxxxzzzsss....) the next, poof! You're a bum. Usually, I don't mind being a bum. In fact, bumhood, I believe, is an art. An art that though I have yet to master, I have learned to love, respect and what the hell am I talking about?

No seriously, I don't mind being a bum because I've always been such a lazy fuck that work and slacking off are pretty much the same thing to me so being  a bum right now won't make much of an impact in my life. But imagine for a sec, if I buy a laptop in December only to lose my job on the first quarter f next year I'd end up with two freakin' lappy.

Sometimes I'm really tempted to ask my boss if there's a remote possibility that I'd be fired in over the next six months. Not that he gave me any reason to think he will (in fact, I'd say he's pretty satisfied with my performance), mind you. I'm just being paranoid as usual I'm just thinking about my future. Listen, the only reason why I wanted another laptop is because I wanted something light enough to carry around malls when I'm out shopping having a netbook allows me to work while I'm out somewhere and I won't be stuck carrying my bigass main machine. So what's the point of getting one if I'll just lose my job in a few months?

So there. I'm in such a pickle! I want to buy me a netbook, like, right now but if I'm going to shell out PhP30k+++ I want to make sure that my job can hold up at least until the later part of next year. But my mind is always filled with useless trivia that are directly related on the specs of Toshiba NB200, it's driving me insane! I swear, I read almost all the product reviews about it out here on the web, it's a full-blown obsession. I'm really, really fighting the impulse to buy one and since I'll be back in the city tomorrow, you can bet that I'll spend most of my time lurking around Cyberzone.

Wish ko lang di ako uuwi ng may bitbit... hehehehe!

Went On A Safari, Will Never Come Back

safari4top_thumb

I just installed Safari 4 browser (under the recommendation of a Mac user) and my goodness... I'll never use Firefox ever again! It's true, the loading time is sooOOooo fast! For some weird reason, I kept experiencing a lot of crashes from the latest Firefox version and that pretty much left me frustrated. No more! No more!

Perfection!

Back To The City, I Shall Be

I shall once again haul my ass back to the city in order to visit my sister, treat her cat to a bigass scratching post, keep tabs on the love of my life and as it turns out, to also attend a rare Angels get-together. So obviously I've been pretty busy lately, working my fingers to the bones in order to free up time to go back to Menela.

Ack.

The great thing is that the boss made it easy for me, he got this new thing going and thankfully, he gave me a heads up about it two days before the actual implementation which I always appreciate because I fucking hate it when he changes my tasks with not as much as a warning. So there, I hope he keeps it up because I have wasted enough articles already because of that.

Moving on, yes, we will treat Dimitri to a spa where he will be subjected to grooming, bathing, de-clawing and other humiliating things that cats hate.

And finally:

Gosh, can I just rant about my expenses? Home-based nga pero bakit di nababawasan ang mga gastos ko? BAKET?!?! Letcheeeee! I keep making ipon but recently unexpected gastos keeps springing up out of nowhere, how will I be able to buy me this in time for Christmas?!

False Alarm

So last night (technically it was 1 in the morning) my mom woke me and my kiddie bro up and hurriedly told us to pack our things. We were told that we are temporarily moving out because flood is gearing up towards our area. It should've been a stressing experience but the lethargic feeling that came from suddenly being woken up at the dead of the night served as a great buffer.

Oh, and it was also a false alarm.

So we went to our second home and spent the night there. It wasn't a painful ordeal but the aftermath was a bit annoying. I placed most of my stuff on higher ground the night before and so now my room is in complete disarray. Even now I can't quite figure out where I hid some of my stuff, hehehe. Anyways, I'm glad that nothing truly bad happened because from what I've seen and heard, Pangasinan and Ilocos are both underwater. Haaay. I wish it would stop raining even for a couple of weeks just to give these people a rest from the damn flood.

Bitch, Please.

Baby, I Love Your Way

When a friend and an esteemed colleague of mine dropped some knowledge on me regarding HP Mini's uh... short-comings, I was crestfallen. Especially after just finding out that the unit is now available here in the Philippines a day before.

So I did a lot of research and even asked enlightenment somewhere. I finally stumbled on answers after typing in "HP Laptops Sucks" on Google. The information I got was staggering! One notable article I read was this one. It addressed my problem directly. After reading tons of forums, I was convinced that I should decide against buying the mini and stop this obsession once and for all. I know what you're thinking, you're thinking "go get a life" "Of course you will see a lot of HP flak, you freakin' typed the word HP Sucks on it, dumbass."

Wrong.

There are actually a lot of websites dedicated solely on dissing HP lappies. Here's the clincher, "HP actually advised us against puchasing the consumer HP/Compaq Pavillion line of products. Never touched one, never will." (comment made by some guy who used to work for a reseller of corporate HP PCs). Did you see that? Even HP hates their own shit! People are angry out there!

Toshiba-Mini-NB200

Anyway, I have moved on. This would explain the seemingly lost sexy lappy pic above.

I believe I haven't introduced him, his name is Toshiba NB200 also goes by the name NB205 in the U.S, we met online and after getting to know each other for while, we're in-love. Yes, I'm leaving you. We are so done. I know, I said I love you... but I lied.

Hahaha! Okay, enough fooling around. Since my new/old M800 Tosh is solid and works fine despite having trouble with it at the beginning, I had it replaced and it's been working like a dream ever since. So I know firsthand that this brand is kinda great so why not get another one.

First off, the specs of the NB200 is sorta the same with every single netbook in its league but the difference is that it's tons cuter. Also, back when I was doing research on this model, I stumbled upon a forum where someone said she attended the live review of the model as it was launching somewhere in Asia (I failed to take note where exactly) and they did drop tests. Everyone in the room was allowed to drop this beautiful piece of sexy and it didn't even leave a dent on the chassis. Oh yes, it was working fine even after several torture. So I watched a couple of video revs and read through online revs such as this and I have to say I was sold when I read this: "we had no problems streaming video at full screen or working with several applications (Firefox 3, Microsoft Works, and Skype) simultaneously."

That's basically all the applications I use and knowing that the performance was snappy despite simultaneous apps going on, I have to say the search is over. The downside is that it is a bit pricey at Php 29k. And it comes bundled with a puny 3-cell battery. Of course, I can always buy a six-cell batt but that would cost me so damn much. Nevertheless, I am going to start saving up today. This means I will not be able to attend any out of town trips and such. Which fine because these days, the only company I keep is reduced to a couple of household appliance and this shiny laptop of mine, hahaha!

Sitting Tight

First off, I just got back from the city and as expected I spent most of my time tidying up our apartment, doing loads of laundry and touching wet things. Oh, don't get me started on wading through knee-deep city muck, it was one the most disgusting things I ever had to go through. I had flashbacks of rainy nights as a college student, being forced to walk from Morayta to Dapitan in knee-deep flood water with shoes on my right hand and my sodden backpack in the other. Except this time, the water is tons smellier and murkier.

It was a nightmare but I seriously think we lucked out. A lot of people lost their belongings, houses and  lives even and we got off with only a few inches of flood water, I'm relieved. For now. You see, I got an urgent sms from a friend telling me (and everyone he knows) to stock up and brace ourselves for this. Apparently, this super typhoon is just as strong as U.S.'s hurricane Katrina and lawrd, I'm nervous. So nervous in fact that I literally placed almost all electric appliances we had on higher ground. Unfortunately, our refrigerator was too heavy to lift, hahhah!

Anyway, it's barely a week after Ondoy, how can city folks possibly prepare for something as huge as this? I wish we all get off lucky this time, we really need it.

So after that, I saw this and heard about this. Now tell me, is it just me or is Mother Nature pissed over something we don't know about? Cuz she hasn't been subtle about her displeasure these past few days, maybe it's time we reflect on what the fucking hell is up. Oh, also, I just read about this, sure it has nothing to do with the batshit crazy weather but it's riveting, to say the least.
